Frenchie did terrible things for Little Nina and the levees have finally broken. The Boys Season 4 has Frenchie undergoing a mental breakdown. It comes on the heels of a quaint mission; one that demonstrates the need for his team to be more united than ever. Unfortunately, Frenchie can't be part of the team anymore due to his sins. In the process, he makes a harrowing decision that will reverberate in a massive way.

Updated on October 23, 2024, by Ajay Aravind: Frenchie's romance with Colin was an integral part of his fluid sexuality, despite the homophobic rants of a tiny section of the fandom. It showed that his character was capable of growth and differentiation, to move beyond Kimiko and explore other possibilities in his life. That being said, his Season 4 storyline was all over the place, leaving him quite anchorless by the end. As such, we have updated this article with some more information about Frenchie's future.

Colin Could Never Forgive Frenchie for Killing His Family

The Boys Breaks Up a Major Friendship After Their Most Unique Mission (4)

Season 4 finds Frenchie sparking a romance with Colin, who works at Starlight's charity. It stunned fans who didn't realize Frenchie was bisexual, although The Boys Season 3 dropped numerous clues. Frenchie is reluctant at first, but he presses on, especially because Kimiko wants him to be happy. She apparently thinks of him like a brother, so she believes the earnest Colin could be a good fit. After all, both men have been perfect for each other. Shockingly, when Frenchie learns who Colin's family is, guilt creeps in.

It turns out, Frenchie murdered Colin's family years ago for the Russians. Colin hid and survived, but since then, he's had tremendous trauma to deal with. It depresses Frenchie to the point he resumes his drug habit. He becomes disconnected from the team as he goes through these motions. He eventually admits the truth to Colin. As a result, Colin angrily beats him. A dejected Frenchie wants to be killed and begs Colin for this merciful release. Frenchie killed so many others as well as his Russians dealt arms and drugs. But Colin refuses to be Frenchie's killer and tells him to stay away.

Colin leaves Frenchie's life up to fate; he can't believe Frenchie hid this betrayal for so long, but at last, he has closure about the assassin. It's one of The Boys' most heartbreaking arcs. It shows immense humanity within Frenchie. He's always nonchalant outside his bond with Kimiko. He's usually found making weapons, chemicals, and other tools. But this break-up leaves him very hollow on the inside. He has no clue how he'll keep pretending to be a hero with Billy Butcher's team. He doesn't feel like he deserves absolution. Instead, Frenchie wants to suffer and pay for his crimes.

The Boys Season 4 Has a Link to Supernatural — And It's Quite Graphic

Season 4 of The Boys has repeatedly pushed the boundaries, and its recent connection to the hit show Supernatural is no exception.

Frenchie Turns Himself into the Cops

His Penitence Comes from a Place of Misery and Pain

The Boys Breaks Up a Major Friendship After Their Most Unique Mission (6)

Frenchie powers through and helps the Boys out when they visit a farm that the American Vice President, Victoria Neuman, runs. She's been trying to create a "supe virus" to kill super-powered humans like Homelander. However, the project backfires, as it infects animals on the estate, and leads to the Boys having to kill these monsters. All of this puts life into perspective for Frenchie: life is too short, a feeling that's made worse by him being a murderer. As self-realization sets in, Frenchie keeps pulling away from Kimiko. He talks to the others about whether sinners deserve forgiveness, but he just can't be this honest with Kimiko.

Kimiko always placed him on a pedestal, so he doesn't want to break that perception. It's a facade he hopes to take to the grave. After the battle at the farm, Frenchie decides that he knows who can punish him: the courts and the American justice system. He goes to a police station and turns himself in. He wants to be at peace, even if it means risking his life in jail. There might be faces from his past in prison who he'd let kill him, or he could just rot his final days away. What's certain is that he wants to be alone after abandoning his team. He just wants to punish himself in solitude.

Frenchie Abandons Kimiko at the Worst Time

Kimiko Was Dealing with Serious Issues of Her Own

Frenchie's intentions are more than respectable. It shows he adores transparency and accountability, but the timing is awful. He should be there after Kimiko's recent run-ins with the terrorist cell that brought her to America and weaponized her: the Shining Light. She attacked one base and slaughtered many of its agents. She had Jack Quaid's Hughie Campbell help out, too, but there's one girl who keeps stalking her. Kimiko brought pain to her life after helping abduct and indoctrinate her. Kimiko had no choice in that matter, as the cell would've killed her if she didn't comply.

After escaping and regaining her identity, Kimiko wanted to move forward. It adds layers of tragedy and sympathy to Kimiko's story. This young lady is a stark reminder that Kimiko cannot outrun her past. Kimiko stole the young woman's life when she was a teenager and plunged her into a life of abuse. This woman thinks she's taking back control by murdering Kimiko. The latter spares her and, without saying a word, lets her know to move on. But that won't happen. Kimiko will still be hunted by the woman and the Shining Light. The former is about revenge, while the latter sees Kimiko as their property.

The sad thing is, all Frenchie has to do is have an open conversation with Kimiko and be vulnerable. He would have then realized they had a common thread. They could have discussed plans to wipe this from their respective ledgers, and healed with each other. They're best friends, after all. Instead, Frenchie keeps it all bottled up. By sticking to himself, he damaged his mental health and opted to make a bad choice. He failed to understand that Kimiko needs him, and that she would have been there for him without judging his sins.

Kimiko is in agony over what she did in her old life, and now, she's all alone. Sadly, she won't even have time to process this disaster, because the Boys have to murder Antony Starr's Homelander. His regime is growing stronger by the minute. A lot has to do with the Seven's Sister Sage. She's manipulating the media and helping Firecracker paint Homelander as a savior. Thus, Butcher's team needs their chemist back. Frenchie is the only one who can try to recreate the virus with Victoria's aid. This would be a major tool, as it would stop other villains from rising up like Homelander.
